Making Sense of Backing Up Your Computer
When it comes to backing up the data on our computers, phones, and tablets, many of us have thought, “Is that something I should be doing?” While the answer is definitely YES, setting it up can be confusing and feel daunting. Hard drives vs. “The Cloud.” Apple Time Machine, Windows File History, Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, Apple iCloud (where is that cloud located anyway?). In this presentation, Jim Keen will explore the reasons for and common methods of backing up your data, so you’ll be able to decide what is best for your own situation.

The Problem of Electronic Waste and How to Make Our Devices Last Longer
When our electronic devices break down, or just work poorly, we often get rid of them and buy new ones. Sometimes buying new is the only solution, but what is the environmental impact of our electronic waste? For example, making a new iPhone SE can produce 140 lbs. of CO2 emissions–more than a Delta flight from Detroit to Cleveland. Many of us are surprised to learn that there are easy, practical alternatives that help the environment and save us money. In this presentation, Jim Keen will explore the problems of electronic waste; how to make our devices last longer; and when necessary, the proper way to dispose of our electronics.
About Jim Keen
Jim Keen started Keen Focus back in 2013. He is a teacher, business owner, husband, and father of two. He developed his curiosity for "how things work" as a child back in the 1970s while tinkering (unsupervised) with an electro-mechanical pinball machine in his basement. After successfully rigging the machine to play free games without "tilting," and without electrocuting himself, Jim progressed into the world of 1980s computing with Apple's Mac SE. He began troubleshooting technical problems for friends (including his future wife) while earning his Bachelors in Communication at the University of Michigan. Later, while working toward his Masters in Education at U of M, Jim became highly involved in educational technology and has used it in both the classroom and in the homes of his clients to help teach them how to use their technology.
If you have any sort of technical issues that have been nagging you–and you just can't seem to find the time or resources to figure them out--contact Keen Focus Technology Tutoring. Jim can not only solve your problem, but also teach you how to fix it on your own!
